Well the mortician has spoken. Max, the remaining developer working on the Freedo project confirmed earlier today, via the Freedo forum, that development on the only 3DO emulator has ceased. The pronouncement was made at June 06, 2007, 03:18:07 AM
From it's birth in 2002 to it's death merely hours ago, Freedo represented what many thought was impossible; freedom to play 3DO games on a PC.
Along the way we had highs and lows, and in many ways Freedo mirrored the actual 3DO hardware; there were many broken promises. A Dreamcast version was promised, an Xbox version was also mooted, not to mention a GP32 version and even the possibility of a Freedo Hardware release. We even had promises of IDE hard drive connectors. Of cause these are all now dead.
Yet, let us not dwell on the failures. As an emulator it was however second to none. A rough estimate probably around 90% of all 3DO games work on Freedo and allow even owners of modest PCs to play 3DO games.
It's crowning achievement coming in the most recent release, when finally the Need for Speed and Wing Commander III became playable, and all the graphics issues were laid to rest.
Yet on this day, all that remains now, is to lay Freedo to rest. To go to where every code no longer in development goes.
I call on you to thank the developers of Freedo, for their time, their effort and their dedication to Freedo throughout it's life and wish them every luck in their future enterprises.
This blog remains a testament to their fine and mostly unrewarded efforts.
Freedo is dead. Long live 3DO.
3DO Kid.

Appears the project isn't dead, just on (eternal?) hold.
There's some light at the end of the tunnel, after all..
